Answer the usual questions

What owners often say before they decide, and plain answers you can give.

Many owners have a question or two before they decide. Hear the whole question, answer it plainly, and leave room for a no.

  1. “We have a Facebook page.”

You can say“Keep it. A website puts your hours, what you offer and a button to call you in one place you control, and your page can link to it.”

  2. “I can't afford it right now.”

You can say“It's [price] a month, and that covers the website, the hosting and the changes you ask for. You can cancel at any time.”

Keep your price, and talk about how the website helps their business.

  3. “Send me some information.”

You can say“Sure. What's the best email for you? I'll send you the link today.”

Send it that day, with one line about what the website does, and call when you said you would. The email is in the lesson before this one.

  4. “We already have a website.”

You can say“Great. Is someone looking after it for you?”

If someone looks after it, thank them and leave. If it's broken or hard to use on a phone, open both on their phone and let them compare.

  5. “My nephew does our website.”

You can say“Then you've got help already. Here's my number, in case you ever need it.”

    Thank them and leave.

  6. “We get our work from word of mouth.”

You can say“That's a great sign. When people hear about you, they often look you up before they call. This gives them your hours and a way to reach you.”

  7. “What if I want to stop?”

You can say“You pay month to month and can cancel at any time. Your domain stays yours, and you can download your words and photos from your login whenever you like.”

  8. “I'm not good with computers.”

You can say“You don't need to be. You can describe a change in plain words in your login, or send me a message.”

  9. “Business is slow. Let's wait.”

You can say“No problem. Can I call you on [day]? The website stays online for 30 days, so you can look at it again before then.”

Put the day in your calendar.

  10. “Can I change things first?”

You can say“Of course. Nothing goes live until you approve it. Tell me what you'd change, and I'll do it.”

If they change their mind

You can refund all or part of a payment from your Clients page within 30 days of the first payment. You choose whether their subscription continues or ends. If it ends, the website stays up for 14 days and they keep their domain.
