Questions and answers

Answers to common questions about building and selling websites on Ironstone, organized by topic.

Getting started

What is Ironstone, and who does what?

You find local businesses with Lead finder. Our AI builds the website in a few minutes from public details. You review the website, edit any text or images, and send it under your own brand. When the business pays, their website stays live. You can use mysiteslive.com addresses or your client's own domain.

Do I need to know how to code or design?

You do not need to know code or web design. Our AI designs the website around the business's real details. You can edit anything by tapping on text and photos, or by typing instructions in plain English. Every layout is generated for that specific business.

Can I start before I have a business name or brand?

You can start right away using your personal name. There is no need to pick a business name or design a logo first. You can add your brand name and logo later in Settings whenever you are ready.

How much time does it take?

Building a website takes a few minutes. Editing text or images takes seconds when you describe what you want to change. Most of your time is spent choosing businesses and sharing the completed websites with them.

Who is this for?

This platform is for anyone 18 or older who wants to sell websites to local businesses, including freelancers and small agencies. Each person or company gets one account. You operate under your own brand, so your clients see your business name, not ours.

How do I sign in? Is there a password?

We email you a sign-in code that works for 10 minutes, or you can sign in with Google. You stay signed in on your device for up to 30 days, as long as you use your account at least once every 4 hours.

How do I get my first client with no portfolio?

The website you create for a business serves as your sample. You show the business their own finished website before asking for any payment. Lead finder highlights businesses that don't have a website or have an old one, and our starter kit gives you scripts to use when you reach out.

Can I try it before I sign up?

Search for local businesses before you sign up. Enter a town to see which businesses need a website. Choose one, create your account, and our AI builds the website in a few minutes.

Finding businesses

How do I find businesses with no website or a bad one?

Lead finder lets you search for a specific trade in any town. It checks each business's map listing and website and shows you only the ones with no website, one that won't open, or one that's out of date.

Where does the business data come from?

Business details come from public map listings and the business's current site. We store only a location ID, search details, and our site check, then fetch fresh information when you open your list. We also keep anonymous counts by business type and area, without names, addresses, or reviews.

Which towns and countries can I search?

You can search any town, city, or area in the United States. The country list in Lead finder shows all other supported regions.

Why does a search show fewer businesses than I expected?

Our search leaves out large national chains, closed places, government offices, schools and local groups, and any business that asked not to be listed. What's left are independent local businesses, the kind that buy websites.

Is it OK to build a website for a business that never asked for one?

You can build a website for any business without prior permission. Unapproved websites are hidden from search engines and are only visible through the private link you send. The site includes a link for the business to request immediate removal, and it is automatically deleted if they do not respond within 30 days.

Can a business remove itself from Lead finder?

Any business can request to be excluded by visiting our prospect data page. Once requested, we remove the business from Lead finder for all partners. We also place their email address on every partner's do-not-email list.

Building and editing

What do I need to start a website build?

You only need the business name and town to start a site build. Our AI reads the details from public map records and the business's current site if it has one. You can also send the business a short form to collect updated text and photos directly from them.

Where do the photos come from?

The tool uses the business's existing photos first. If more photos are needed, our AI generates images for that business type or selects licensed stock photography. We never use photos from public map listings, and you can replace any picture at any time.

Are the example websites real businesses?

The showroom's websites are examples made for fictional businesses. A business's own website is built for it by our AI from its own details, so each one is different.

Can I build another version for the same business?

You can create a new version for the same business at any time. Each site build generates a distinct website with its own web address. Your original version remains active until you delete it or it expires.

Will it use the business's existing website? Is that allowed?

Our AI reads the business's current web pages once to gather basic facts, text, and images while respecting web crawler rules. The business confirms it owns the rights to that content when it approves the new website.

How do I change words and photos?

You can change text or photos by tapping them directly on the screen. You can also type instructions to our AI to rewrite sections or replace images. AI changes use credits from your plan, and the app displays the credit cost before running the update.

Can I undo a change?

Yes. We keep every saved version of the website for 90 days, and you can bring back an earlier one with one tap.

Can my client edit their own website?

You decide how each client manages their site. You can make all edits for them, give them direct editing access, or review their proposed changes before they go live.

Will a template update change websites I've already sent or sold?

System updates never alter websites you have already built or sold. Every site remains exactly as created. If we launch new design features, you choose whether to apply them to an existing site.

Will clients or their customers know an AI made the website?

Websites do not feature platform branding or watermarks indicating AI generation. You sell the completed websites under your own business name.

Is the AI's writing accurate? Who checks it?

Our AI uses only the business's online details. It leaves out anything it can't find. It never invents phone numbers or opening hours. Prices show only as the business publishes them, or you can turn on Typical prices in Settings. You check every word before you send the website.

Does the AI write reviews?

The AI never writes reviews. The website shows only reviews the business published on its own website, or ones you added. You choose what stays on the website.

Sending for approval

What does the business see when I send its website?

When you send a website link, the business sees only their completed site. It includes a small line stating you created it for them and a link to request removal. Our name does not appear anywhere on the page.

Should I email, call or visit? What do I say?

You can reach businesses by email, phone, or in person. Our starter kit provides scripts for all three approaches. You can connect your own email account to send messages directly from the app, so replies go to your inbox.

How long does a website I've sent stay up if the business doesn't answer?

Sent websites stay active online for 30 days. If the business does not respond within that time, the site is deleted. You can send the link again any time before then. The date doesn't move.

Can the business ask for changes before it pays?

Yes. The business can leave comments on the website to show you what to change. You make the edits and send them the updated link.

How does approval work?

Your approval link opens a secure card payment page at your price. The business reads your price, any setup fee, and the terms, checks the box to agree, and pays. Paying approves the finished website they saw, and it goes live in a few minutes. If your payouts aren't connected yet, the link opens a short approval form instead. If you edit the website after the business approves it but before it goes live, the business approves the new version. Once it's live, your edits publish right away, while changes from the business depend on the client editing option you chose.

Can the business approve now and pay later?

The business can approve before paying only if your payouts aren't connected yet. In that case, your link opens a short approval form, and the business pays later using its own sign-in link after you connect payouts. When your payouts are connected, approving and paying happen in one step on the payment page.

Plans and payments

What are the plans?

You can choose from Free, Launch, Growth, and Agency plans. Every plan includes AI credits and leads each month. Paid plans start with a 14-day trial. You can check current prices and details on Pricing.

What is a site fee, and when does it start?

The site fee is what we charge each month for each live website, and we take it from the business's monthly payment. It starts on day 15 of your trial, or on the day the website goes live if that's later. Offline websites have no site fee. If you keep a website live after the business stops paying, we bill its site fee to you. See Pricing for current rates.

Do I pay for websites I haven't sold?

No. You pay a site fee only after the business approves the website and pays. We take the site fee directly from that payment.

Can I change my plan?

You can upgrade or downgrade your plan in Plans & Billing. Upgrades take effect immediately, while downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.

What happens if my plan payment fails?

If your plan payment fails, we attempt to charge your card again after 3 days and 7 days. If the balance remains unpaid after 14 days, your account moves to the Free plan, but your clients' live websites remain online.

How much should I charge my clients?

You set the prices for your web services. The app suggests a retail rate for each site and displays the minimum price required to cover your site fee and card charges so you maintain a profit.

Can I charge a setup fee?

You can charge an upfront setup fee on any build. The client pays this fee alongside their first recurring payment, and we do not take a cut of your setup fee. Standard payment processing rates apply.

How do I get paid? Who pays whom?

Your clients pay you directly by card into your connected payment account. Your business name appears on the client's credit card statement and receipt, and we collect only our site fee from the transaction.

What do I keep?

Your payout is the full payment minus your site fee, card processing, and a 0.7% billing fee. You keep the rest, including any setup fee. You can see the exact amounts on our Pricing page.

Can I change a client's price later?

Changing your prices affects only future clients. Existing clients keep the pricing and billing schedule they originally agreed to.

What happens when a client's payment fails?

If a client's payment fails, they receive automated payment reminders on days 0, 3, and 7, followed by a final notice on day 13. The site pauses automatically on day 14 unless you choose to pay the site fee yourself to keep it online.

Can I earn by referring people?

You can earn money by sharing your referral link with new partners. You receive a share of their monthly payments to us for 12 months, and you can review the full terms on our partners page.

When do I get my money?

A payout is the transfer of your collected earnings from your payment account to your bank. You can choose weekly payouts on Fridays or monthly payouts on a chosen date, and Agency partners can receive payouts every business day.

Do I need a payment account? What does it ask?

You need a payment account to accept client payments by card. Setting it up takes a few minutes in the app, and you will provide standard verification details like your legal name, address, and bank account information.

What if a client wants to pay before my payment account is set up?

The app saves the client's approval even if your payment account is not set up yet. Complete your payment account setup, then send the payment link to your client to complete the transaction.

What happens if a client disputes a payment with their bank?

You handle payment disputes directly with your bank because you are the merchant of record. We notify you of any dispute, share the submission deadline, and help gather required site logs. Any dispute fees assessed by your bank are charged to your account.

Who handles sales tax on my clients' payments?

You are responsible for calculating and collecting any applicable sales tax on payments from your clients. We do not collect or remit taxes on your client transactions.

How do I cancel my plan?

You can cancel in Plans & Billing. Your plan stays active for the rest of the period you paid for. Afterwards, your account moves to the Free plan, your storefront stays up, and your client websites stay online at the Free site fee. The limit of 5 live websites only stops you from publishing new ones.

A client wants a refund. What happens?

You can refund any amount up to the original payment within 30 days of a client's first payment. You can use one refund or several. You choose whether their subscription continues or ends, and we return our site fee proportionally. You handle any refunds directly with your client after 30 days.

Can I get a refund on my own plan?

Subscription plan payments are non-refundable for partial months. If a billing error occurs, contact us within 30 days to receive a full refund.

Domains and hosting

How does a client connect their own domain?

You or your client can point a custom domain to the website by adding a single record in the domain registrar account. The app gives step-by-step instructions and shows when the domain is connected. The site uses a mysiteslive.com web address until the custom domain connects.

Who buys the domain?

The client purchases and owns their domain name directly through any domain provider. We do not register or manage domain names, so the client always retains full ownership of their web address.

Are hosting and a secure connection included?

Fast web hosting and secure SSL connections are included for every live website on every plan.

For business owners

Who do I pay, and who is my web provider?

You pay the person who built your website, by card. They're your web provider and the one to contact for changes or help.

Can I take my website's content with me?

You can download your website content at any time through your business account. This includes your page text, images, contact form submissions, and customer messages.

Where do my customers' messages, bookings and orders go?

Customer form entries, appointment requests, and orders show up in your account dashboard with notification badges. You can also turn on instant email notifications for new activity.

Can I cancel?

You can cancel your website plan at any time in Billing within your account. Service continues until the end of the current billing cycle you paid for.

What do you collect about me, and for how long?

We collect basic account details, client website information, and payment records necessary to run your account. We retain this data according to the schedules outlined in our Privacy Policy.

Do you read my mailbox?

We do not read your personal emails. When you connect an email account, our system checks only for replies to outreach messages sent through the app, and your password is saved with full encryption.

Do you track visitors? Is there a cookie banner?

We measure site visits without using tracking cookies or saving data on visitor devices. We honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals, and because we use only essential functional cookies, your site does not require a cookie banner.
